Travis Pengelly
Travis has been a professional painter since 2003 and has worked in South Africa, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, Winnipeg, and Calgary. In 2011, he spent some time in Thailand wondering what he should do with his life. The answer was “keep painting.” At first he partnered with someone but his partner didn’t share his passion or perfectionism, so Travis founded A Burst of Colour in 2013 with the vision of creating the best interior painting company in Calgary.
Travis is all about love, for both our team and our clients. He draws on his excellent listening skills to identify what people need and how he can best help, and then he ensures he delivers. Travis’s calm, supportive energy allows everyone involved in our projects, from our clients to our team, to feel secure and happy from start to finish.

Nate Plewis
Nate’s a “get things done” kind of guy. He truly loves working and takes pride in being a master painter. Nate started painting full time in 2009 and has been working with sprayers since 2011. In addition, he’s a handy guy who can often step in and do odd jobs for clients, like switching out light fixtures, faucets, or toilets, so they don’t have to hire someone else.
Nate’s philosophy is “If I wouldn’t want it in my house, I don’t want it in your house.” and he applies that to both quality control and how he treats our clients’ homes. He’s a loving, caring guy who ensures that everything is done properly so our clients can relax and ultimately enjoy their home’s new atmosphere.
Mitch Dexter
Customer service is number one for Mitch, who’s been painting since 2013. Prior to joining A Burst of Colour, Mitch was in the food and beverage industry, where he developed fantastic communication and organizational skills that serve him well in ensuring that complex residential painting projects get completed on time and budget.
Mitch is a very open guy who’s easy to talk to and focused on making sure our clients are happy. If there are concerns at any point in the project, he’ll work closely with you to identify solutions until you’re absolutely delighted with the result.
Mat Smith
Our graffiti wall mural artist, Mat’s been blessed with the ability to capture the essence of his clients and create powerful graffiti images that transform spaces. He first held a spray paint can in 2007 in his native home of South Africa, where he created numerous wall murals, and now he’s brought his talent to Calgary.
In 2014, Mat turned his attention to learning the art and science of residential painting. A perfectionist (like the rest of us), he’s a fanatic about quality control and ensuring our clients’ homes are treated respectfully. Although he’s a hard worker, Mat’s a laid-back guy with a great sense of humour who likes to make sure everyone is having fun while they get their work done.
Jordan Nelson
Jordan moved to Calgary in 2018 from Ireland, where he started painting in his teens and eventually made it his career. He’s a whiz with a roller or brush and is eager to learn to use our multiple sprayers. (They don’t do much spraying in Ireland. Who knew?)
Enthusiastic and outgoing, Jordan was drawn to our team’s welcoming vibe and he extends that vibe to our clients. His goal is to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible in your home while we’re there. Jordan’s passion for painting is fueled by his ability to envision the end result and bring that vision to life for clients.
Dee Dexter
Dee owns Dee Dexter Designs and is our go-to interior designer for colour consultations and interior design help. Dee trained professionally in South Africa and has worked as an interior designer in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and across western Canada,
Dee brings a fusion of design ideas to inspire you to create spaces you love. She understands how overwhelming it can be to select paint colours. Working with her, choosing paint colours becomes fun because you can relax, knowing you’re going to be happy with the result. Dee is also an expert at faux finishing and can help you achieve the look you want.
